The Story Behind Happy Roots: How a Dino Garden Inspired Something Unexpected
Long before Happy Roots Sensory Garden existed, it started as a small project inspired by a little boy who loved dinosaurs. When my son “Logo” was little, he was absolutely fascinated by dinosaurs. He spent much of his time watching shows like Dinosaur Train (dinosaurs and trains - what could be better?) and DINOTRUX (construction vehicles and dinosaurs - another great combo). His favorite movie was, and still is, Jurassic World and he collected every dinosaur toy he could get his hands on. I wanted to capture that joy and bring it into the backyard, so we built him his very own Dino Garden—a space where he could play with plants, rocks, and, of course, dinosaurs.
What started as a fun family project quickly became something much more meaningful. The garden became a place of discovery, exploration, and connection with nature. We watched as strawberries grew, butterflies visited, and Logo’s curiosity sprouted.
Six years later, the inspiration sparked by that little Dino Garden is still growing.
But the Dino Garden is only one small piece of the Happy Roots story. When we started Gardens & Such, we decided to transform our front yard into something more meaningful. We envisioned a space that would showcase the many possibilities of sensory-rich gardening—a place filled with color, texture, fragrance, movement, and discovery. Our goal was to create a garden that highlights the need to slow down and engage your senses.
As we were building the garden, it was Logo who came up with a name that perfectly captured everything we hope it will become: Happy Roots.
The name couldn't have been more fitting, reflecting not only the plants taking root in the garden, but also the memories, creativity, and connections made there.
Today, through Gardens & Such, we help others create sensory-rich gardens that transform ordinary outdoor spaces into places of discovery, connection, and joy. The same spirit of imagination that inspired a little boy's Dino Garden continues to guide everything we do. Our goal is to cultivate gardens that grow more than plants—creating spaces that become sensory experiences.
Every thriving garden starts with strong roots, and sometimes, those roots begin with the imagination of a child.
Thank you for being part of the Happy Roots story. We look forward to helping you grow your own sensory garden—one that might just become the beginning of a story like ours.
Happy Planting,
-Tara
